MULTIPLE DIMENSIONS OF GENDER STEREOTYPES
WHAT ARE GENDER STEREOTYPES?
Gender stereotypes are frontiers that keep us from achieving our full happiness. They put us in rigid boxes that prevent us from achieving what we truly want. They divide and separate us based on what society expects. Basically, gender stereotypes are generalized views or preconceptions about attributes or characteristics, or the roles that are or ought to be possessed by, or performed by, women and men. They are obstacles, that we, as a society, must overcome.
Gender Stereotypes in Children's Entertainment
Television programs are a central part of children's everyday lives. These programs often transmit stereotypes about gender roles such as “Girls are fragile and always need to be saved by the strong, heroic prince.” These movies and shows can affect girls' and boys' performance, motivational dispositions, and attitudes. Disney is a big entertainment company that is guilty of gender stereotyping its characters. When children see this, they often are influenced by the stereotypes and believe that it's what's expected of them.

One Upon a Time is a website that allows users to learn and share ideas about gender stereotypes seen in entertainment. Users will be able to publish their own clips and ideas that can be used in children's movies. One of the main factors that influence children’s mindsets is movies and shows. If we create movies and shows that break gender stereotypes, we can open so many youthful minds that won't be driven by what society expects of them.
